STAND-UP POUCHES
Dynamic growth in Europe / Annual rise of 14% up to 2008 / Schönwald multi-client study
The production of stand-up pouches is a particularly interesting niche segment of the European plastics packaging market with a high growth potential. Over the past five years, demand for retortable and non-retortable pouches for food, pet food, beverages and non-food appliations has risen significantly both in western and in eastern Europe. A multi-client study by Schönwald Consulting (D-74354 Besigheim; www.schoenwald-consulting.com) points to worldwide consumption of 9.7 bn pouches in 2004. The market research company expects annual growth rates of nearly 14% up to 2008, which would increase European market volume to 16 bn units.
The 173-page study provides extensive data on production and consumption of stand-up pouches in 33 European countries (figures from 2004; with forecasts for 2008), broken down by market segments. The publication also provides detailed information on all relevant machinery manufacturers, film and packaging producers, and end consumers and beverage fillers throughout Europe.
