The Centro Español de Plásticos (CEP, Barcelona / Spain; www.cep-plasticos.com) is one of 255 companies and associations that has signed a circular economy pact in Spain. The initiative is promoted by the Spanish environment and economy ministries, to support the transition to a circular economy model in which products, materials and resources are kept in the economy for as long as possible and waste generation is minimised.
The agreement includes a list of 10 commitments, such as promoting life cycle analysis of products, incorporation of ecodesign criteria, guidelines that increase the efficiency of production and innovative forms of sustainable consumption. CEP says signing of the agreement conforms to the plastic centre's mission to contribute to the knowledge and establishment of a responsible culture for the proper use of plastics. CEP's general director, Ángel Lozano, says the centre has been promoting a new plastics culture that respects the environment.
Other signatories include plastics recycling organisation Cicloplast (Madrid; www.cicloplast.com), the Spanish plastics converters association ANAIP (Madrid; www.anaip.es), the Spanish association of compostable and biodegradable plastics Asobiocom (Madrid; www.asobiocom.es), the national association of plastic recyclers Anarpla (Valencia; www.anarpla.com), chemical recycling company Plastic Energy (Madrid; www.plasticenergy.net) and packaging group Saica (Zaragoza; www.saica.com).
