Sorting plant in Germany goes into operation / Source material for LyondellBasell recycling
Source One Plastics (Dalldorf, Germany; www.s-one.de) has commissioned a sorting and recycling plant for plastic waste in Eicklingen in Lower Saxony, Germany. The joint venture between 23 Oaks Investments (Dalldorf) and LyondellBasell (LYB; Houston, Texas; www.lyondellbasell.com) reports that the plant has an expected processing capacity of 70,000 t/y. This corresponds to the amount of plastic waste produced by around 1.5 mn people in Germany every year.

The pre-processed plastic waste is to form a significant part of the raw material for the large-scale recycling plant that LyondellBasell is building in Cologne-Wesseling. According to the company, the plant in Eicklingen uses a drying process that reduces energy consumption by up to 30% compared with conventional plastic recycling technologies. It is also powered by locally generated renewable energy and is designed to minimise the release of plastic microparticles. Source One Plastics plans to fill up to 30 positions for the operation of the plant in 2024.
