Strata to build CRP prepreg plant in 2020 in UAE / Supply for Boeing
Plans for Solvay (Brussels / Belgium; www.solvay.com) and aviation supplier Strata Manufacturing's (Al Ain / United Arab Emirates; www.strata.ae) joint venture are taking shape on the production side (see Plasteurope.com of 27.09.2016). The 8,500 m² plant of the 50:50 joint venture is to be constructed, starting from 2020. By 2021, production of prepregs made of carbon fibre-reinforced plastics (CRP) will begin in Al Ain.
The CRP prepregs are intended for parts of the new Boeing "777 X". While the move represents Solvay's entry into the local composites market, it is also important for the Arab region, and strengthens its previously weak processing sector.
