SOLVAY
Acquisition of CPChem's “Ryton” PPS business wrapped up
Solvay (Brussels / Belgium; www.solvay.com) has completed its takeover of Chevron Phillips Chemical’s (CPChem, The Woodlands, Texas / USA; www.cpchem.com) “Ryton” PPS business. The USD 220m deal was first announced in September last year (see Plasteurope.com of 05.09.2014). The business was consolidated into Solvay’s Specialty Polymers unit on 1 January 2015.
The activities include two PPS resin production plants in Borger, Texas / USA – with an overall nameplate capacity of 20,000 t/y – as well as a pilot plant and R&D facilities in Bartlesville, Oklahoma / USA. Also part of the deal is a compounding plant in Kallo-Beveren / Belgium. All in all, some 200 employees will transfer to Solvay.
As part of the agreement, CPChem’s compounding unit in La Porte, Texas, will provide temporary tolling services to Solvay for an indefinite amount of time, to allow for an orderly transition of the Ryton customer base, the companies said.
