Italian compounder Sirmax (Cittadella; www.sirmax.com) is to invest USD 17.65m (EUR 16m) on a new polyolefins recycling plant at its site in Anderson, Indiana / USA. The 12,000 m² plant will process and pelletise scrap polypropylene and polyethylene, some of which will be used by Sirmax to make recycled-content compounds.

The company already operates a 20,000 t/y PP compounds plant in Anderson, and it intends to purchase an adjacent 14 hectare plot for the new plant. Sirmax expects the new project to result in the creation of 38 jobs by the end of 2022. Anderson city mayor Thomas Broderick said the compounder will receive more than USD 2m in public funding for the new plant, including USD 1.5m for developing a brownfield site and USD 650,000 for infrastructure including a rail spur and utilities expansion.
