Beijing-based polycarbonate joint venture with Mitsubishi starts production
On 25 August 2011, Chinese state-owned chemical giant Sinopec (Beijing; www.sinopec.com) announced the successful start-up of its bisphenol A (BPA) joint venture Sinopec Mitsubishi Chemical Polycarbonate (Beijing) at the site operated by Sinopec Beijing Yanshan Petrochemical in the Chinese capital. Original plans had called for the line, with a nameplate capacity of 150,000 t/y of the direct PC feedstock, to be commissioned by spring 2010 – see Plasteurope.com of 16.04.2009. Media reports indicate that downstream production of 60,000 t/y of polycarbonate is due to begin in September 2011.
Sinopec has been collaborating with Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC, Tokyo / Japan; www.m-kagaku.co.jp) on PP at the site in Beijing since the 1990s. The PC joint venture had been decided upon in 2007.
