Mirec acquisition strengthens recycling position in Europe / Conformity with WEEE
Recycling specialist Sims Group (GB-Stratford-upon-Avon CV37 8AQ; www.sims-group.com) has expanded its franchise in recycling of plastics from electronic equipment into continental Europe through the acquisition of Mirec (NL-5605 LS Eindhoven; www.mirec.com). Subsidiary Sims UK already has a recycling unit at Newport / Wales, which conforms to the European Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive.
Mirec has a number of sites in Europe operating under WEEE for the recycling and recovery of materials from a range of electrical and electronic equipment, including a dedicated site for the recycling of cathode ray tubes from televisions and monitors. Sims UK runs what it claims is the world´s largest refrigerator recycling facility at Newport. The company said it has used this experience to develop innovative recycling solutions for the separation of plastics and glass. Sims Group has an annual turnover of EUR 1.08 bn.
