Colour and additive masterbatch manufacturer Silvergate Plastics (Wrexham, Wales / UK; www.silvergate-plastics.co.uk) has announced the launch of “SilvaFrost”, a frosted-effect masterbatch that enables processors to create their own special effects. Because the masterbatch is process-dependent, the frosted effect only becomes apparent once moulding has been completed. In the case of PET injection blow moulded containers, for example, the frosted effect cannot be seen in the preform, only once stretching is completed. This means that while the neck of the container remains clear, the rest of the moulding is frosted in appearance.
According to Silvergate managing director Tony Bestall, “SilvaFrost is particularly effective in high value packaging applications where strong brand differentiation can be delivered without sacrificing recyclability or other environmental benefits.”
SilvaFrost is available in any colour. Quantities down to 5 kg can be supplied immediately to enable moulders to incorporate it into their product development plans.
Formed in 1985, Silvergate Plastics was acquired by the Vita Group (Luxembourg; www.thevitagroup.com) in 1997. The business underwent a management buyout, headed by Tony Bestall and partially funded by Finance Wales (www.financewales.co.uk), in July 2008 – see Plasteurope.com 17.07.2008.
