Robotics expansions in France and US / Training centre to be relocated and extended
French robotics group Sepro (La Roche-sur-Yon; www.sepro-group.com) is to spend EUR 11m on a three-phase expansion project in France and the US. CEO Jean-Michel Renaudeau said the company had reached the limits of its production capacity, with robot sales having more than doubled during the past four years, from 1,300 units in 2012 to more than 2,700 last year.

The company’s French headquarters and production facility in La Roche-sur-Yon will be expanded over the coming months until the summer of 2018. Robot manufacturing will be separated from the robot integration workflow that, together with the added space, will raise capacity for Sepro's 3-, 5- and 6-axis robots from 3,000 units per year to 5,000. The facility's robot integration business units, where Sepro develops custom robotic automation cells, will expand by 50%, enabling the company to complete up to 70 specialised projects annually for its European clients. In addition, Sepro will create a dedicated “innovation space” in its headquarters building.

A second phase expansion in France will see Sepro relocate its training centre from La Roche-sur-Yon to a new open, cooperative campus that is being developed as a regional centre of excellence for robotics and manufacturing by the Pays de la Loire region and Oryon, a local economic development group. About 25 robots will be housed in the centre, which will employ eight full-time trainers who plan to move in during the summer of 2018 and begin training up to 1,500 participants annually, a 50% increase on existing enrolments. Sepro also plans to launch additional e-learning and blended-learning services next year.

In Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania / USA, Sepro will expand its centre to allow the assembly of large robots designed for use with injection moulding machines of 800 t or more that are bound for clients in the US, Canada and Mexico. The work, which will take place during the fourth quarter of 2017, will help to optimise delivery schedules for North American clients while also cutting logistics and transport cuts, Sepro said.
