Germany’s Schütz (Selters; www.schuetz.net) said it is acquiring Ireland’s GEM Plastics (Cavan; www.gemplastics.ie), with the prospective buyer reporting that the corresponding purchase contract has been signed. Financial details were not disclosed.
GEM Plastics, founded by Alec Milligan, has been producing plastic drums and canisters for more than 30 years, with deliveries primarily to the chemical, lubricant, food and beverage, and pharmaceutical sectors. The company did not provide information about sales and employee numbers when contacted by Plasteurope.com.
Schütz has been operating in the UK since 1992 at its recently expanded site in Worksop (see Plasteurope.com of 28.10.2021) and in Ireland since 2000 at its production plant in Killala. The acquisition of GEM Plastics adds canisters to the German-based company’s range in the British Isles.
A maker of intermediate bulk containers (IBC) and plastic and steel drums, Schütz is a leading manufacturer of transport packaging, with more than 50 production and service locations worldwide and over 7,000 employees. It reported sales of EUR 1.8 bn in 2020.
