Investment in three-layer blow-moulding unit for Malaysian plant / Growing Asian IBC market
A global player in the market for industrial packaging, Schütz (Selters / Germany; www.schuetz.de) strengthened its production site in Malaysia with the latest installation of a new three-layer continuous extrusion blow-moulding unit at its production plant in Nilai, 45 minutes off Kuala Lumpur. The three-layer extrusion unit produces IBCs with not just the two usual layers of HDPE but also a third ultra-thin outer layer, making use of possible alternative functional materials.
In addition to the already existing IBC models, IBCs with either a conductive or an antistatic outer layer such as the "MX-EX antistatic" (which are suitable for use in ex-zones), have already been in production in Malaysia since September. This innovation allows them to keep up with the fast growing Southeast Asian market for industrial packaging, the company says.
Since its establishment in 2006, the 60,000 m2 production plant now employs 70 people and is supported by sales organisations in Indonesia, Thailand and Singapore. The plant also participates in the "Schütz Ticket Service" which offers their customers a complete collection and reconditioning system of used IBCs.
