Swiss company expands composite business / Acquisition of Irish Athlone Extrusions
Schweiter Technologies (Horgen / Switzerland; www.schweiter.ch) has entered into an agreement to acquire Athlone Extrusions (Athlone / Ireland; www.athloneextrusions.ie). This acquisition is to strengthen Schweiter's Transport & Industry business in its 3A Composites division, following its takeover of Foamalite in 2012 and Polycasa in 2015 (see Plasteurope.com of 04.02.2015).

Athlone manufactures coloured opaque multi-layer plastic sheeting, which is primarily used by thermoformers that produce parts for the automotive (low series recreational, agriculture, and construction vehicles), sanitary ware (shower trays, bath panels), office equipment, point of sale and furniture industries. The company has representatives based in several European countries and a workforce of 175 employees. In 2016, Athlone generated sales of approximately EUR 62m.

The enterprise value for Athlone Extrusions is agreed upon at EUR 48m. The transaction is expected to be completed by 31 July 2017.
