SCG Chemicals, a subsidiary of Thai film manufacturer AJ Plast (Bangkok; www.ajplast.co.th) has followed up its acquisition of a 70% stake in Portugal’s Sirplaste-Sociedade Industrial de Recuperados de Plástico (Porto de Mós; www.sirplaste.pt) with an investment in new machinery and other technologies. Financial details were not disclosed.
The move aims to expand the production capacity of recycled HDPE or other post-consumer recycled resin by 9,000 t/y, or 25% of the current total production capacity of 36,000 t/y.

Ricardo Pereira, Sirplaste’s chief executive, said there were plans to increase production capacity on an ongoing basis to support the expanding green packaging market.
Last year SGC Chemicals announced it was working with Brazilian polyolefin producer Braskem (São Paulo; www.braskem.com) on a bio-ethanol dehydration plant for production of bio-based ethylene and PE (see Plasteurope.com of 22.09.2021).
