Sanitized (Burgdorf / Switzerland; www.sanitized.com), a manufacturer of antimicrobial products for plastics and textiles, has launched a new product as part of its “BroadTect” portfolio that protects against several microorganisms, such as bacteria, mould and mildew, yeasts and algae.
The temperature-resistant agent is suitable for most thermoplastic polymers such as polyethylene, polypropylene, thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU), ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), PVC and synthetic rubber (EPDM, NBR and SBR), which are used in extrusion or in injection moulding processes. It is also compatible with commonly used additives and its durable antimicrobial properties are claimed to be effective even with ongoing washing and weathering.
The product is said to be particularly beneficial for kitchen utensils, containers, filters, seals, packaging and tarpaulins. Sanitized also noted that the additive has demonstrated good antiviral efficacy on surfaces. Consequently, and given the increased importance of hygiene in public spaces arising from the coronavirus pandemic, product manager Christine Niklas sees a large market in applications such as plastic handles, switches, seats, handrails, floors and sanitary utensils.
