Swiss firm Sanitized (Burgdorf; www.sanitized.com) is introducing two new and advanced additives for the protection of plasticised PVC. The products – "Sanitized PL 12-32" and "PL 12-33" – will be launched next month at the "Techtextil" trade fair in Frankfurt / Germany.
The first additive, Sanitized PL 12-32, is said to have excellent water resistance and UV stability, making it highly suited to outdoor applications such as awnings and tents. The second, Sanitized PL 12-33, has high thermal stability and can retain product transparency, rendering it suitable for indoor uses such as flooring and furnishings.
Microbes can break down the plasticisers in many flexible PVC products causing them to become stiff and brittle, cracks begin to form and then decomposition sets in. Bacteria, mould, fungi, mildew, yeasts and algae can cause material destruction, unsightly stains, cross contamination, odour development and biofilm formation. Sanitized said the new additives can successfully increase product stability and they have been individually tailored for different applications.
Last August, Sanitized introduced an antimicrobial additive for bio-based plasticisers used in the production of PVC – see Plasteurope.com of 08.08.2012.
