South Korean chemical group opens compounding plant in Hungary
Roughly a year after it first began works on the new plant, SamYang (Seoul / Korea; www.samyang.com) in March inaugurated its new compounding plant in Jászberény / Hungary. The EUR 10m facility was built on the site of Jasz-Plastik (Jászberény / Hungary; www.jp.hu) and includes 10,000 t/y extrusion units for PC and PBT compounds, earmarked for the automotive sector and monitors. The new facility initially will employ about 60 workers. SamYang has said that it plans to double the plant’s capacities by 2013.

The Korean company’s three main business divisions – chemicals, foodstuffs and pharmaceutical – last generated group sales of EUR 780m. The group is not just engaged in the polyester chain (Samnam Petrochemical, manufacturing PTA/PET), but also operates an Engineering Plastics subdivision. The joint venture SamYang Kasei has a nameplate capacity of 110,000 t/y of PC in Korea and also manufactures PBT and PET compounds as well as TPE.
