SABIC
PP copolymers introduced to aid thin-wall rigid packaging
Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com) has added two new high flow, injection-moulding grades, PP “513MK46” (MFR 70) and PP “512MK46” (MFR 50), to its polypropylene portfolio. These new grades based on a phthalate-free catalyst are developed for thin-walled packaging applications, and would open further opportunities for packaging manufacturers and converters with production efficiency through shorter cycle times and weight savings through thin wall manufacturing, the company said.
“Sabic’s new impact polypropylene 513MK46 and 512MK46 grades are created to help our customers remain at the forefront of industry where consumer safety and sustainability are all critical,” said Lada Kurelec, global business director for Polypropylene.
While providing a better balance between high stiffness and impact strength than standard impact copolymers, these new high flow polymers will also help manufacturers lower transport and storage costs, claims the company.
Rigid packaging made with PP 513MK46 and PP 512MK46 will be typically used in packaging for frozen/chilled/ambient food, dairy products, applications in housewares, appliances, toys, caps and closures. Sabic produces these copolymers, which are available for customers around the world, at its Saudi Kayan (Al Jubail / Saudi Arabia; www.saudikayan.com) facility in Al Jubail.
