SABIC
Controlling share in Dutch UD tapes producer Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastics acquired
Sabic (Riyadh / Saudi Arabia; www.sabic.com) has acquired an undisclosed majority stake in composite tapes producer Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastics (Lelystad / The Netherlands). Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The Dutch group has now been renamed Sabic Fibre Reinforced Thermoplastics (Sabic FRT; www.frt.sabic.com). Headed by Andrey Turchin, the division specialises in the production of engineered thermoplastics and fibre-reinforced unidirectional (UD) tapes, used across a range of end markets. The controlling share in the Lelystad-based company gives Sabic access to the former’s proprietary HPFITTM technology, which enables the precise spread and combination of thousands of glass or carbon fibres within a thermoplastic matrix, which most likely consists of polyamide.
