New transparent polycarbonate resin / “Sabic PC” will be marketed alongside traditional “Lexan”
Sabic Innovative Plastics (Bergen op Zoom / The Netherlands; www.sabic-ip.com) has introduced a new transparent polycarbonate family under the “Sabic PC” brand name. The resin manufactured by the Saudi group’s Saudi Kayan PC subsidiary at Jubail City – see Plasteurope.com of 28.10.2010 – will be marketed alongside the traditional “Lexan” polycarbonate acquired with the takeover of GE Plastics in 2007 – see Plasteurope.com of 22.05.2007. Contrary to the new grade, Lexan can be used for coloured applications and ready-to-use compounds containing additives.

The new transparent polymer with high impact strength and heat resistance as well as UV resistance is aimed at high-volume extrusion, custom compounding, general purpose and optical quality applications, Sabic said. Alongside the fast-growing Asian economy, where CD/DVD production is concentrated, target markets are the Middle East and Europe.
