R&P POLYPLASTIC
Strategy to boost compounding capacity and exports / Russian producer seeks to enter European market / New PPS compound
Russian thermoplastic compounds producer R&P Polyplastic (Moscow; www.polyplastic-compounds.ru) is working to enter new markets in eastern and central Europe as part of its "Export Boost" programme. The company already plans to raise its production capacity by 50% over the next five years in order to meet an anticipated rise in export sales.
In its third-quarter 2017 results, Polyplastic said export sales had jumped by 30% year-on-year, with the automotive, household appliance and construction segments accounting for the majority of demand. It noted that the Russian car market had picked up this year following two years of stagnation.
Vladimir Belousov, public relations manager for Trade House Polyplastic, a trading arm of the Russian group, said net sales for 2017 were expected to climb to RUB 8 bn (EUR 115m), with exports planned to reach 2,667 t. In 2016, R&P Polyplastic produced 71,000 t of plastic compounds for technical purpose, and exported 1,500 t to neighbouring countries such as Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Belarus and Azerbaijan. Turnover was RUB 7 bn.
Although Polyplastic has yet to enter Europe, it is already delivering to French car maker Groupe PSA’s (Paris; www.groupe-psa.com) plant in Russia. Belousov noted that from this year, Polyplastic’s engineering compounds were permitted to be used in Groupe PSA’s car spare parts, both of domestic and foreign origin.
Earlier this year, Polyplastic signed a cooperation agreement with PSMA Rus, a joint venture between Groupe PSA and Japanese car manufacturer Mitsubishi (Tokyo; www.mitsubishi-motors.com). Under the deal, signed in February, the Russian firm is supplying up to 80% of the compounds needed by PSMA Rus to make plastic car components at its assembly plant in Kaluga / Russia. The polymers will be used to make parts in door panels, dashboards and bumpers, among others. Polyplastic’s materials have been used in engine compartment components in the Peugeot "408" and Citroen "C4" models since late 2016.

New generation compounds to be presented at "interplastica"
The Moscow-based company also announced in June 2017 that it has successfully developed and launched a new PPS compound, called “Armoten”. According to Polyplastic, the injection-moulded thermoplastic is the only PPS produced in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union in December 1991. The company has also developed another PPS compound, named "Termoran". These new products will be presented at the next "interplastica" trade fair (23-26 January 2018) in Moscow / Russia – see Plasteurope.com of 26.09.2017.
