Antimicrobial PMMA offers protection against droplet infections
PMMA specialist Röhm (Darmstadt / Germany; www.roehm.com) has introduced a version of its “Plexiglas” extruded sheet said to provide protection against droplet infections from Covid-19 and other pathogens.

The “XT Antimicrobial” grade of acrylic glass has been created for use in areas required to maintain high hygiene standards and those with frequent public traffic. Its transparent solid sheets feature a coating on both sides that makes the new product scratch-resistant and antimicrobial. According to the company, the “coating contains a formulation that controls microbial growth”.

Röhm employs around 3,500 people at 15 production sites in China, Germany, Russia, South Africa and the US. According to Plasteurope.com’s Polyglobe database (www.polyglobe.net), Röhm is number two on the world market for production of PMMA moulding compounds, with a capacity of 283,350 t/y.
