The “Gizmo” closure and delivery system from packaging specialist RPC Bramlage-Wiko (Lohne / Germany; www.rpc-bramlage.de) has been selected for a new range of natural tea drinks launched in the USA. The closure provides a pressurised bottle cap where all the ingredients are contained and released when the cap is opened – once the consumer chooses to drink them. This means the ingredients are mixed at the point of consumption to provide a much fresher drink than a pre-mixed variety as well as an eye-catching colour change that enhances the opening experience.

The closure chamber provides protection for the flavours, real brewed tea and antioxidants without the use of chemical preservatives and defends the ingredients against UV light and oxidation. The system comprises a miniature pressurised chamber, injection moulded by RPC Bramlage-Wiko, which holds the required volume of colours, flavours, vitamins, minerals, herbs or concentrates. As the cap is twisted, the ingredients burst into the bottle and self-mix, while a colour change provides visual confirmation that the drink is ready to consume.
