ROSTI
UK moulding plant closed / Production now concentrated in Scotland and Wales
The UK subsidiary of the Danish moulding company, Rosti A/S (DK-3520 Farum; www.rosti.com) is closing its factory in Redhill with the loss of 110 production jobs. Rosti UK (GB-Larkhall ML9 2PJ) has started the statutory 90-day consultation period with employees at the site, where RostiĀ“s lease has less than two years to run. It will now concentrate its moulding business at its plants in Larkhall and Parc Nantgarw, Cardiff, with a total workforce of 350.
The Redhill closure is the latest in a series of setbacks suffered by Rosti since the collapse of the telecoms and mobile phone market in the UK. It closed its Wembley, North London plant in the summer of 2001, when also slimming down operations in Redhill and Larkhall, and at its toolmaking business in Hastings. At the time, the parent company provided an extra GBP 5m of funding to assist the UK subsidiary with its consolidation process. The toolmaking facility has since been closed.
