ROPLASTO
Profile manufacturer Besaplast acquires assets / Latium Plastics offer unacceptable to employees
Roplasto Fensterprofile (Bergisch-Gladbach / Germany; www.roplasto.com) has been bought out of administration, just days after insolvency proceedings were opened in a Cologne district court on 30 March 2007 – see Plasteurope.com Web of 26.01.2007. Buyer is Besaplast Kunststoffe (Borken / Germany; www.besaplast.com). The manufacturer of waterstops and special purpose profiles made of thermoplastic materials is acquiring assets of the main plant at Bergisch-Gladbach as well as the two production sites in Poland and Russia and all branches, patents and licences. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Besaplast plans to keep all three production sites running. The Borken company, which employs around 200 people at its main site alone, plans to transfer Roplasto´s 81-member workforce at Bergisch-Gladbach to an employment company for eight months, while Besaplast CEO Franjo Kovac gradually recruits his final team from this pool.
Latium Plastics Holdings (Wilmslow / UK), which acquired HW Plastics from the Heywood Williams Group in 2005 (see Plasteurope.com Web of 08.09.2005), initially had also expressed interest in Roplasto. However, the British company wanted to close the German plant and only keep the two eastern European sites. This prompted the German works council to seek another investor.
