Divestment of Belgian moulding unit / Sale to Danish packaging group
As part of its ongoing programme of restructuring and divestment, Rexam PLC (114 Knightsbridge, GB-London SW1X 7NN) has sold its Belgian thin wall container operation Plastic Packaging NV (Industriezone, 19 Biereweg, B-9230 Kwatrecht Wettern) to a Danish group DV Industri. DV Industri's packaging division already operates two injection moulding businesses in Scandinavia, Joni Emballage A/S (Haraldsvej 25, DK-8900 Randers) and Tipac AB (Box 124, S-560 27 Tenhult) both of which are also manufacturing thin wall food containers.
The total consideration of the sale is GBP 6.1m including GBP 3.1m of debt. Rexam Plastic Packaging's 1996 sales were GBP 10m and its net assets were GBP 7m. The completion of this sale brings the number of divestments made by Rexam to 17 since December last year, with total proceeds of GBP 99m.
