Higher raw material prices buoyed H1 revenues despite weaker volumes

The price increases of PET granules significantly helped boost H1 revenues of Resilux (Wetteren / Belgium; www.resilux.com), despite the lower volumes sold during the period by the PET bottle and preform maker. Both operating profit and net profit gained, by 16.1% at EUR 18.28m and 26.2% at EUR 13.79m, respectively.

Revenues of EUR 198.8m, up 0.1%, were generated largely by the Preforms segment, whose sales of EUR 168.6m slightly declined from the year-earlier quarter. Sales of the Bottles segment were flat at EUR 22.13m.

Volumes sold at Preforms and Bottles were 2.8% lower year-on-year, because customers had piled up their inventory in Q1 last year after the outbreak of Covid-19. But in the second quarter, volume growth was reported. Geographically, volumes fell in the tourist regions of Southern Europe but rose in Eastern Europe and Russia. For the second half of this year, Resilux expects the results to be stable. Investments of EUR 12m are currently planned in the expansion of the Swiss recycling activities (see Plasteurope.com of 04.05.2021).
