Spanish group to build Moroccan PP compounding plant for car industry with Ravago

Spanish energy and petrochemicals giant Repsol (Madrid; www.repsol.com) and Belgian plastics distributor and compounder Ravago (Arendonk; www.ravago.com) have signed an agreement to jointly construct a polypropylene compounding plant in Morocco’s Tangier free zone to produce high value-added material specially designed for the automotive sector.
Repsol said the project is also sponsored by the Moroccan Ministry of Industry and is supported by the locally established OEMs Renault and Stellantis.
Plans call for production capacity of 18,500 t/y at what is expected to be the largest such plant in the country when commissioned in mid-2023. PP compounds will be formulated for car interiors, exteriors, and under-the-bonnet parts.
According to the agreement, Repsol plans to market most of the plant’s production capacity under its Isplen and Impacto brands. Ravago is to be the plant operator and manufacture polyamide, polycarbonate-ABS, and PBT compounds for the automotive sector.
