German waste service provider Remondis (Lünen; www.remondis.de) says it now owns all shares of Sweden’s Veolia Recycling Solutions Nordic (Hisings Backa). With the acquisition, the group seeks to expand recycling activities in the Swedish market and strengthen its market position in Northern Europe. The parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price and other details of the transaction, which is subject to the approval of antitrust authorities.

The Nordic subsidiary of French disposal group Veolia (Paris; www.veolia.com) operates 65 locations in Sweden, all of which are to be transferred to the German firm. In addition to classic recycling, these northern business operations include the collection, processing and marketing of waste materials, services and industrial cleaning.

Remondis reports ownership of branches and stakes in companies in more than 30 countries on four continents. The family firm, founded in 1934, announced sales of EUR 8.2 bn for 2020 and a staff with more than 38,000. Four years ago, the recycling group acquired Sweden’s Ad Infinitum Recycling, which has been trading as Remondis Infinitum since the takeover (see Plasteurope.com of 14.06.2018).

In the field of packaging recycling, the German waste disposal company recently suffered a severe blow: two major discounters – Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd – will switch to the dual system from Interseroh for licensing their own-brand packaging from 2022, which means the Remondis Eko-Punkt system will lose its two largest customers.
