REKO / WAVIN RE-USE
Joint venture for plastics recycling / Biggest European company at 100,000 t/y
The Dutch chemicals group, DSM (PO Box 6510, NL-6401 JH Heerlen) and the shareholders of Wavin Re-Use BV (PO Box 173, NL-5700 AH Helmond) have "reached an agreement in principle on the formation of a joint venture for the recycling of post-consumer plastics waste". DSM is contributing the activities of its recycling subsidiary, Reko BV (PO Box 191, NL-6190 AD Beek) and will have the biggest holding in the company at 40%. The other two partners, NV Edon and NV Rova Holding, will both receive a 30% holding through the contribution of their joint company, Wavin Re-Use. According to DSM, this pooling of forces will "considerably reinforce the position of both companies in respect of both size and the scope of goods and services offered". The new company will process approximately 100,000 t/y plastics waste at four locations, with a payroll of 230, and thus move into the number-one position in Europe. Reko and Wavin Re-Use already rank amongst the top five in the European recycling industry.
Reko has some 120 employees and, according to DSM, is one of the world's leading recycling companies for plastics waste. Its current capacity is some 40,000 t/y. Wavin Re-Use, with its payroll of 110, produces more than 50,000 t/y regrind at three locations in the Netherlands (Hardenberg, Lichtenvoorde and Helmond). The company was set up at the end of the Fifties in conjunction with the reprocessing of production waste from the film division of Wavin BV (NL-7700 AC Dedemsvaart). The Edon and Rova Holding companies are key Dutch waste disposal companies, in addition to other lines of business.
