Closure of New Jersey resins plant following storm damage / Some of site's 27 jobs affected
Reichhold (Research Triangle Park, North Carolina / USA; www.reichhold.com) has decided to close its resins plant in Newark, New Jersey / USA after it was damaged during Hurricane Sandy on 30 October 2012. The company said production has been transferred to other sites in North America, where it has enough capacity to satisfy customer demand in the near-term.
Mary Neubauer, assistant manager at the Newark plant, said the facility is expected to close within the next four months. The plant had the capacity to produce more than 60m lb/y (27,000 t/y) of resins used in the coatings industry. “Since the unexpected shutdown in October, the volumes normally produced at the Newark plant have been transferred to other Reichhold sites in North America,” she said in a statement to Plasteurope.com.
While some of the 27 employees at the site will remain with the company, the remaining jobs will be lost, Neubauer said. “Reichhold recognises that the closure will impact the lives of many of our loyal employees and we will work with employees, the union and the community through this difficult transition,” she added.
