EU recycling initiative RecyClass (Brussels; www.recyclass.eu), developed by Plastics Recyclers Europe (Brussels; www.plasticsrecyclers.eu), has received a positive evaluation of its Recycled Plastics Traceability Certification by the European co-operation for accreditation, European Accreditation (EA, Paris; www.european-accreditation.org). The scheme verifies and certifies the origin and percentage of recycled content in plastic products in line with the latest market and regulatory developments. The application procedure for the accreditation can now be started by RecyClass’ certification bodies.

“The recognition will promote transparent verification and finally the uptake of recycled content in new products on the European market while raising awareness about the importance of verified, circular claims,” RecyClass said, adding that the certification was evaluated based on product certification (ISO/IEC 17065) following the European Accreditation Procedure for the Evaluation of Conformity Assessment Schemes by the EA.

The application procedure was handled by Belac, the Belgian Accreditation Body, and evaluated via the EA, an association of national accreditation bodies from all over Europe.

In Germany, the national organisation for standardisation, Deutsches Institut für Normung (DIN, Berlin; www.din.de) recently published a new guideline for the classification of plastics recyclates, intended to form the basis for a future comprehensive European and international standard (see Plasteurope.com of 21.01.2022).
