RECYCLASS
Norway‘s Norner accredited as certification body / In-mould label technology certified as compatible with rigid PP recycling stream
Norner (Porsgrunn, Norway; www.norner.no) said it is now a RecyClass (Brussels; www.recyclass.eu) certification body and recognised laboratory for HDPE and polypropylene containers as well as polyethylene films.

Norner said its new Polymer Exploration Centre in Porsgrunn, Norway, has more than 4,500 m² of plastic laboratories for advanced testing and analysis. It also serves as a high-tech plastic processing, recycling, application, and packaging centre.

RecyClass gives nod to in-mould label technology
Propyplast (Retoumac, France; www.propyplast.net) has received the RecyClass approval for its LMG CleanLoop technology as fully compatible with the rigid PP recycling stream in Europe, RecyClass said. The technology, a PP-cast multilayer film for in mould-label (IML) applied on a PP container, can separate the printed layer from the rest of the label during the grinding step and afterwards via air elutriation, a procedure that allows for the recycling of unprinted flakes.
The tested IML was applied on a white PP tub, representing 5.5% of the total weight of the packaging.

Plastics recycling processes approved
Duclo Recycling (Leeds, UK; www.duclorecycling.com) said it has been awarded the RecyClass accreditation for its plastic recycling processes for post- and pre-consumer waste.
Duclo Recycling’s dry recycling facility and wash plant is set to recycle around 7,000 t/y of plastics. It said it plans to invest in an additional wash plant and dry recycling machinery. An independent audit of the business conforms with EN 15343:2007 and ISO 22095:2020 standards, the company said.

Self-adhesives get recyclability approval
RecyClass said Fedrigoni’s (Verona, Italy; www.fedrigoni.com) two technologies – PP White with water-based acrylic emulsion adhesive and PE White with UV-cured acrylic adhesive – are compatible, respectively, with the rigid, coloured PP and HDPE recycling streams in Europe.
In both cases, the labels were tested unprinted on bottles without caps, RecyClass said. For the PP-based technology, the adhesive represents 1% of the total weight of the tested bottle while the facestock accounts for 2.2%. On the other side, the PE-based technology was tested with the adhesive representing 1.2% and the facestock being 8.2% of the total weight of the bottle.
