UK recycling body Recoup (Peterborough; www.recoup.org), has announced it will manage the British operations of RecyClass (Brussels / Belgium; www.recyclass.eu). The cross-industry auditing platform was established by Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE, Brussels; www.plasticsrecyclers.eu) to assess the recycling potential of various rigid plastic containers. Packaging is ranked from class A (recyclable) to class F (not recyclable). Recoup said a report would be provided for individual products along with recommendations for achieving greater recyclability of the item.
Stuart Foster, Recoup’s chief executive, said his organisation had seen increasing demand for certification of plastic packaging and what he called “a recognised central and consistent point for plastic packaging recyclability reviews in the UK, also ensuring alignment internationally where possible.” He added that the RecyClass platform provides an opportunity to deliver these aims “and evolve and align the recyclability certification opportunity as part of a wider network.” Seven certification bodies across Europe have been accredited to issue the RecyClass certifications (see Plasteurope.com of 07.08.2020).
