Reagens (San Giorgio di Piano / Italy; www.reagens-group.com) is acquiring the thioester business of Evans Chemetics (Teaneck, New Jersey / USA), which includes the activities around Evanstab antioxidants. According to the purchase agreement, Reagens intends to buy required thioester products from the Evans plant in Waterloo, New York, for a transitional period, the Italian additives manufacturer announced. During this phase, Reagens US will invest in additional production capacity at its Pasadena, Texas, site to manufacture the required products in the long term, it said.
Evans Chemetics is a subsidiary unit of Bruno Bock Chemische Fabrik (Marschacht / Germany; www.thiochem.com). The Evanstab portfolio comprises derivatives of thioglycolic acid, mercaptopropionic acid and thiodipropionic acid. Esters of thiodipropionic acid are generally used as secondary antioxidants, while esters of thioglycolic acid or mercaptopropionic acid are used for the production of tin-sulphur heat stabilisers.
