ECHA proposes six new chemicals for SVHC list
The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA, Helsinki / Finland; http://echa.europa.eu), the agency that administrates REACH, has invited comments up to 21 October 2016 on its latest proposals for chemicals to be added to the growing list of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC) under the EU chemicals legislation.
The new list includes six substances:
The new list includes six substances:
• | Benzene 1, 2, 4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride (trimellitic anhydride; TMA), used in the manufacture of esters and polymers and as a laboratory chemical |
• | 4-tert-butylphenol, used in coating products, polymers, adhesives and sealants and for the synthesis of other substances |
• | p-(1,1-dimethylpropyl)phenol, used to produce polymers and for the synthesis of other substances |
• | 4,4'-isopropylidenediphenol (bisphenol-A) used in manufacturing polycarbonate and thermal paper, as a hardener for epoxy resins and as an anti-oxidant for processing PVC |
• | Nonadecafluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) and its sodium and ammonium salts, which belong to the group of long-chain perfluoroalkyl substances – not yet registered under REACH but used as a plasticiser, lubricant, surfactant, wetting agent and corrosion inhibitor |
• | 4-heptylphenol, branched and linear, a polymer used in lubricant additives such as detergents, metal deactivators and corrosion inhibitors. |
