Speciality engineering plastics and composites company Quadrant Plastic Composites (QPC, Lenzburg / Switzerland; www.quadrantplastics.com) has opened a new plant in Nitra / Slovakia, to produce “SymaLite” glass fibre-reinforced thermoplastic composites. The company, a subsidiary of Mitsubsihi Plastics (Tokyo / Japan; www.mpi.co.jp), said the additional production is in response to growing demand, both in automotive and non-automotive applications such as transportation, construction and decorative design.
“SymaLite” light-weight sheets combine PP and glass fibre and are used in various car components, including underbody shields and headliners. QPC said “SymaLite’s” inherent noise absorption properties result in a simpler production process without the need for additional noise-proofing solutions, while also reducing the weight of the finished part.
Sales in Europe for premium segment cars have been rising and QPC said car production in central and eastern Europe is “on a positive path” for European and Asian manufacturers. Consequently, the plant’s location in Nitra ensures easy access to customers to further grow the business.
Sven Welich, QPC’s chief executive, commented: “The SymaLite production capacity will be strengthened significantly through the additional plant. The focus of our investment in Nitra is sustainability. We want to make a long-term and targeted investment, act responsibly, provide new jobs to the region of Nitra and secure lasting business success.”
Other manufacturing bases for “SymaLite” are located in Europe, North America and Asia.
