Spanish cosmetics packaging manufacturer Quadpack (Barcelona; www.quadpack.com) has announced plans to spend over EUR 6 mn on its German plant in Kierspe.

The company acquired German decoration specialist Stefan Wicklein Kunststoffveredelung (Steinbach am Wald) last year and is said it is planning to dedicate a 900 m² facility in Kierspe to decoration in addition to expanding injection moulding and assembly capacity at the site. Quadpack said the investment is in response to growing demand in particular for airless packaging solutions.

The company noted that it is also moving towards more sustainable production by gradually shifting SAN and SMMA packaging production to PET and rPET to improve recyclability, and it is testing decoration techniques and researching more sustainable materials in cooperation with ink, varnish, and foil suppliers.

“Our Kierspe plant is already a centre of expertise for PET injection to meet our sustainability goals. Now, we can add decoration expertise, cutting down on transportation, improving Scope 3 CO₂ emissions and speeding up lead times,” Quadpack COO Fabrice Revert said. “Our investment in Germany brings production closer to home for the majority of our client base.”

After the pandemic led to the company’s first-ever income loss and revenue drop in the year to 31 January 2021 (see Plasteurope.com of 21.07.2021), Quadpack now projects better results for the current year, with its Skincare business expected to grow 10%.
