Dutch bioplastics specialist Purac (Gorinchem; www.purac.com) has signed a cooperation agreement with Rotec, the project development arm of Russia’s Renova Group (Moscow; www.renova.ru), for an economic feasibility study on producing and supplying polylactic acid (PLA) in Russia.

In the study, Rotec will analyse the availability of optimal agricultural land and feedstocks and potential production locations, as well as researching the Russian market. Purac will analyse feedstock-to-PLA technologies and define the business case. Purac currently operates plants in the Netherlands, Spain, the US, Brazil and Thailand.
