Promens (Reykjavik / Iceland; www.promens.com) has confirmed media reports that it is restructuring its business in Germany – for previous coverage, see Plasteurope.com of 14.08.2014. The company said that two of its facilities – in Görzke and Winsen – will be integrated into its new plant near Magdeburg / Germany, which is expected to commence operations in autumn this year.
Located in an industrial area that allows for 24/7 manufacturing, the new facility – called Promens Theessen – includes 9,000 m² of production space with high hygienic standards as well as an administrative and technical services wing that spans 1,500 m². The plant stands on a lot measuring 56,000 m², and Promens said it plans to add a 10,000 m² storage facility next year. The new site’s strategic location means the company will be able to easily export its output to both western and eastern Europe as well as Scandinavia.
The restructuring is not limited to the Görzke and Winsen sites alone. Promens also plans to integrate its operations in Witzenhausen into its existing plant in Neumünster. The company said the reason for moving the facilities is that they are all located in older buildings that can no longer be adapted to modern production and logistics standards.
Promens is currently in discussions with its employees and workers’ unions on how the move can be smoothly executed. However, Dragan Stjepanovic, its vice president Chemical Packaging, said it remains unclear how many people will follow to the new plant in Magdeburg.
