PRICE TREND ANALYSES
PIE launches new service for plastics procurement / Helping buyers find the right timing / Recommendation for LDPE in March: Buy
Polymer markets are inherently volatile, and prices reflect everyday changes in economic developments, the arrival of new suppliers, political changes and financial speculations. To help buyers keep track of the latest developments, Plasteurope.com has launched a new service. PIE’s Price Trend Analyses are based on a one-of-a-kind assessment enabling an early prediction of price changes and a market turnaround, and pointing the way to future trends. They provide insights into the short- and mid-term future.

Two weeks ahead of the start to the monthly contract negotiations, you will receive an assessment of the anticipated change in monomer prices alongside advice on how to act. The analyses will initially be available for six grades – LDPE film, HDPE injection moulding, HDPE blow moulding, PP copolymer injection moulding, PP homopolymer injection moulding and HIPS injection moulding. Each report contains an array of charts featuring historical data on feedstock and polymer price developments, cracker margins as well as the unique Wolf Polymere Solutions timing indicator for purchases.

The case of LDPE: To buy or not to buy?
The latest Plasteurope.com Price Trend Analysis for LDPE Film indicates a rising trend for the second half of March, and therefore recommends that buyers purchase volumes now. The increase in notations is the result of a number of factors, the analysis shows, pointing to a 4% drop in the utilisation rates of LDPE plants to 80%, rising spot prices as well as a number of maintenance turnarounds, cutbacks or problems experienced at crackers.

Looking towards April, the ethylene contract is expected to rise, the analysis says, adding that the increase in LDPE prices will probably exceed that of the feedstock. Other drivers include production problems or deliberate cutbacks, maintenance turnarounds and strong demand.
