Pregis (Deerfield, Illinois / USA; www.pregis.com) has acquired So.Pr.Ad. (Soprad, Travedona-Monate / Italy; www.soprad.com), a producer of adhesive protective films with a plant in Travedona-Monate near Milan, and extended its footprint in Europe as a result. Soprad’s products, which offer temporary protection for surfaces such as plastics, metals, wood, carpet, glass and marble, will be marketed under the Pregis brand “PolyMask”.
The US company acquired PolyMask, including temporary surface protective films and speciality films, from 3M in 2016 – see Plasteurope.com of 19.09.2016. The takeover of the Italian manufacturer extends the PolyMask range to include solvent-rubber and solvent-acrylic-based products, which are particularly for the automotive market, among others. Soprad is the first acquisition under Pregis’ private equity owner, Warburg Pincus – see Plasteurope.com of 11.06.2019.
Pregis recently opened a “Film and Foam Specialist Centre” in Heerlen / The Netherlands. Here, blown film is manufactured and turned into rollstock for the company’s inflatable packaging systems. The US company’s European portfolio also includes a variety of loose fill options such as ones that are made from 100% biodegradable starch-based or 100% recycled polystyrene material.
