Japanese supplier debuts high-temp polyetherketone / Material developed for metal replacement
Sarpek brand polyetherketone (PEK) from technical and high-performance plastics specialist Polyplastics (Tokyo; www.polyplastics-global.com) is said to suit injection moulded parts for difficult, high-temperature environments and target a more extensive replacement of metal components. Temperature resistance of the crystalline polymer is said to be even higher than that of PEEK, which is up to 260°C.

The material is said to lack a long hardening time (Photo: Polyplastics)

Standard grades and those reinforced with glass and carbon fibres are only currently sold in Japan. The materials are expected to be available to the rest of the world from October. In addition to granulate test quantities, semi-finished products such as rods are also available, Polyplastics said.
