Japanese engineering plastics specialist Polyplastics (Tokyo; www.polyplastics.com) has developed two new grades of its “Laperos” liquid crystal polymer (LCP) that offer better blister resistance for electronic connectors. Currently in the pre-commercialisation phase, Polyplastics said the grades are confirmed to inhibit blistering more effectively than existing materials and show strong potential for improving productivity.
The company added that it has conducted experimental studies on different forms of blistering, which is a common problem with LCP, and is working to reduce blistering defects even more. LCP has high heat resistance and is widely used in connector applications in devices such as smartphones, as well as in automotive, home electronics and office automation products.
