According to the alliance, unprecedented challenges are driving production out of Europe, increasing reliance on external suppliers at the same time. Geopolitical tensions and overall shifts in market dynamics are impacting energy costs and raising competition from low-cost areas, it said.
In this context, the Polymers for Europe Alliance invited experts from the EU and the US to offer “insights into the global factors shaping Europe’s polymer industry and explore strategies to enhance resilience, sustainability, and competitiveness.”
The head of the Plasteurope.com Price Team, Martin Bäcker, is part of the panel and plans to discuss global plastics trade and geopolitical challenges.
Tony Harrison, according to the association affiliated with Polymer Converters Europe, is scheduled to give a talk on safeguarding Europe’s polymer production, focusing on risks, gaps in policy, and urgent actions required.
Perc Pineda, the chief economist of the US Plastics Industry Association (Washington, DC; www.plasticsindustry.org), is providing a US polymer producer perspective and presenting market statistics.
Finally, the chair of the Polymers for Europe Alliance, Ron Marsh, is set to present the organisation’s new mission.
