Swedish compounder Polykemi (Ystad; www.polykemi.se) has completed construction of a third production hall at its Kunshan, Jiangsu / China-based subsidiary Polykemi Compounds (Kunshan). The site now has space to add five new extrusion lines, which would increase capacity by more than 10,000 t/y. The compounder did not disclose when the additional output capability might be added. However, group CEO Magnus Lindahl said the expansion is “part of our long-term efforts to meet the increased demand we have had over the last four years.”

The Chinese site that was opened in 2008 serves the Asian market directly but also supplies compounds for the Polykemi group, including Swedish subsidiaries Scanfill (Ystad; www.scanfill.se) and Rondo Plast (Ystad; www.rondoplast.se). In late 2015, the company said it would add new production lines at Kunshan, taking capacity to 20,000 t/y (see Plasteurope.com of 04.01.2016). Polykemi has reported volume growth since 2016 averaging more than 5,000 t/y of customer-specified plastic compounds – made from both virgin polymer and recyclate. The company emphasises the close cooperation between its sites in Europe and Asia – this, it says, allows it to deliver the same quality and colour on both continents, leveraging its library of more than 16,000 shades.
