Italian injection moulding company Polplastic (Arino di Dolo; www.polplastic.it) expects sales of EUR 60m for 2021. This would mean an increase of about 20% compared to the pre-pandemic result in 2019. “Considering the adverse conditions during the past two years, this is extraordinary,” the company noted in a recent statement.
The Italian firm, which specialises in injection moulding and coating visible plastic parts for the automotive industry, attributes the increase in revenue both to the establishment of international partnerships and to investments in new technologies and machines. Last year, for instance, the Italians bought a new system for in-mould decoration (IMD, IML) as well as a 3C injection moulding machine made by KraussMaffei (KM; Munich / Germany; www.kraussmaffei.com), which is suitable for overmoulding composites, metal parts and multi-coloured parts.
In May last year, Polplastic had acquired Wegaplast, a competitor that had previously run into financial difficulties (see Plasteurope.com of 22.07.2020). The Italian injection moulders had explained the purchase with the goal of expanding their presence in non-automotive markets, such as household appliances, telecommunications, sports equipment and packaging for care products.
