Spanish film producer invests EUR 30m in new BOPP plant in Poland / Start-up in 2016
As part of what it said will be the main investment in its 2012-2016 strategic programme, Spanish film producer Poligal (Narón; www.poligal.com) recently announced a EUR 30m plan to install a BOPP extrusion line at its new greenfield plant in Skarbimierz, located about 60 km south of Wroclaw / Poland. The Brückner (Siegsdorf / Germany; www.brueckner.com) line will initially produce 8.7m wide 5-layer film, and is scheduled to commence operations in Q3 2016. Poligal said it is mulling the addition of metallization capacity, too.
The plant will further develop the Spanish group’s competitiveness in fields like label films and also strengthen its capabilities in developing film for speciality applications, the company said. The location was chosen not just for its proximity to Germany, but also for being at the “heart of the fast growing flexible packaging market in Poland,” Poligal added. According to a recent report by PCI Films Consulting (Guilsborough / UK; www.pcifilms.com), the Polish flexible packaging market grew by 6.5% to EUR 1.59 bn in 2012 (see Plasteurope.com of 06.08.2014). In addition, the site will enhance the group’s pan-European coverage and serve as a backup for its existing plants in Spain and Portugal.
At its main plant in Narón, Poligal operates two plants with a nameplate capacity of 20,000 t/y. The company also runs a 30,000 t/y facility in Tabaçô / Portugal, which is set to commission another 12,600 t/y line in June this year (see Plasteurope.com of 08.12.2014).
