Kuraray to make EVOH resins in Belgium
Kuraray Co has announced plans to build a plant in Belgium to produce ethylene vinyl alcohol (EVOH) copolymer resins. The new plant is to be built near Antwerp at a cost of USD 85m and will have a production capacity of 10,000 t/y. It is expected to start operation Q3 1999 and will bring Kuraray's global EVOH capacity to 41,000 t/y. Its other plants are in Japan and USA. Current worldwide demand for the resins, used mainly as barrier layers in packaging, is put at 40,000 t/y by the company and it expects this to grow to 52,000 t/y over the next 3 years.
