Price rises also hit British Vita´s earnings
Sales of plastics group British Vita (GB-Manchester M4 2DB; www.britishvita.com) eased forward 2.5% in 2000 to GBP 944m. At the same time, however, operating profit slid back 13.5% to GBP 64m. Company CEO Jim Mercer blamed price increases for raw materials as well as the weak euro for the downturn. Some 40% of the British firm´s plastics products (foams, sheet, compounds, nonwovens) are produced in the euro currency zone.
